Updates

April 9, 2020

Spring Recess was scheduled for April 9 through April 17 but due to Covid-19, it has been cancelled.  The Department of Education has stated students will participate in enriching activities during Spring Recess based on “themes” for each day (e.g., wellness, world language, computer science, college and career readiness, etc.) and use virtual educational resources (e.g., museums, libraries, and cultural institutions).

The MS 442 staff is currently working on activities that will fit the themes suggested by the Department of Education.  Students will simply need to go to ms442.org each day and click on the button for their grade’s weekly tracker of activities.  Teachers will update the schedule by 8:50 AM for the day’s activity.

Once again, the goal of this week is to give your child enriching activities and a time to unwind.  We thank you for your continued support and please reach out with any questions or concerns.

April 5, 2020

Good afternoon MS 442 families,

We hope you and your families are doing well.

This letter is to share two important updates.

  • On Friday evening, The Department of Education stated schools can no longer use Zoom or Google services to deliver lessons.   This directive comes due to privacy concerns.  With that said, this week’s lessons will be pre-recorded and students will access lessons using Google Classroom.  This change requires staff training and revamping lessons that they have already prepared. Please bear with us as we move forward as a staff to figure out the best way to deliver interactive lessons.

  • Also announced on Friday is that remote learning will continue through spring break, April 9 -17.  This time period is supposed to be used less for academic driven work and more on supporting students with engaging lessons provided by the DoE.  MS442 staff will also be working to ensure students have engaging lessons during spring break.

We will be sure to follow up at the end of this week with additional information.
    Thank you,
    Noreen Mills
